Scope

This standard specifies a method for analyzing the surface roughness of components of gas distribution systems using a scanning tunneling microscope (STM). This standard is applicable to the characterization of the surface roughness of stainless steel with Ra less than 0.25 μm. This standard does not apply to steels with thick oxide layers that cannot produce tunneling effects.
