Scope

This part of IEC 61162 contains requirements for data communication between electronic maritime instruments, navigation and radio communications equipment when interconnected via an appropriate system. This part of IEC 61162 is intended to support the unidirectional transmis ion of serial data between a single transmitter and one or more receivers. This data is in printable ASCII format and can include information such as position, speed, depth, frequency allocation, etc. Typical messages can be between approximately 11 and 79 characters in length.
