This standard specifies requirements for demonstrating the ability of a manufacturer or a subcontractor to produce welded structures and to meet the relevant quality requirements insofar as they relate to one or more of the following: a contract between the parties involved; an application standard; a regulatory requirement. The requirements contained in this part of ISO 14554 may be adopted either in their entirety or, if they are irrelevant to the design in question, only in part. They provide a flexible framework for welding in the following cases: Case 1: Setting specific requirements for resistance welding in contracts that require the manufacturer or subcontractor to have a quality assurance system that is not covered by ISO 9001 and where the documentation of the Welding monitoring has less importance for the overall quality of the final construction. Case 2: Establishing specific resistance welding requirements to guide the development of a quality assurance system by the manufacturer or subcontractor. Case 3: Establish specific requirements for reference in application standards that use resistance welding as part of their requirements or in a contract between parties. This standard is designed so that: it is independent of the type of welded structure to be produced; it specifies the welding quality requirements for both the production facilities and the construction sites; it provides guidance to describe a manufacturer's ability to produce welded structures to specified requirements; it can serve as a basis for evaluating the welding skills of a manufacturer.
