This standard specifies the requirements for planning, establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining and continuously improving a documented business continuity management system to implement protection, reduce the possibility of disruption events, and Prepare, respond and recover when you need it. All requirements specified in this International Standard are general and applicable to organizations or parts of organizations of all types, sizes and characteristics. The applicability of these requirements depends on the context and complexity of the organization's operating environment. The purpose of this standard is not to specify a unified business continuity management system (BCMS) structure, but to design a BCMS for the organization that suits its own needs and meets the requirements of interested parties. These requirements consist of aspects such as laws, regulations, standards, products and services, work processes, the size and structure of the organization, and requirements of interested parties. This International Standard is applicable to organizations of all types and sizes that have the desire to: a) establish, implement, maintain and improve a BCMS; b) ensure compliance with a stated business continuity policy; c) demonstrate compliance to other organizations; d ) intend to have their BCMS certified/registered by an accredited third-party certification body; e) make a self-declaration of compliance with this standard. This International Standard can be used to assess an organization's ability to meet its own continuity needs and requirements.
