Scope
This standard specifies the method for measuring the total AC loss of composite superconducting wires in a transverse alternating magnetic field using the detection coil method. Losses may include hysteresis losses, coupling losses, and eddy current losses. IEC 61788-13 has described a standard method for measuring hysteresis loss only in dc fields or in fields with low scan rates [2]. This standard applies to metal and oxide circular cross-section superconducting wires in pulse coils and AC coils, where AC losses occur in the application of time-varying (time-varying) magnetic fields and/or currents. In the electromagnetic configuration of conventional coil applications, the AC losses mainly come from the (time-varying) magnetic field. For a superconducting wire in a transverse alternating magnetic field, this method is usually used for the measurement of the total AC loss at the temperature of liquid helium and the upper limit of the frequency range up to power frequency 50/60 Hz. The total AC loss measured by this method is divided into the hysteresis loss in the superconducting single wire, the coupling loss between the wires and the eddy current loss in the constant conduction part. In the case that there is no normal conductor sheath with a large thickness outside the superconducting wire, the AC loss is mainly hysteresis loss and coupling loss; since the coupling loss per cycle is proportional to the frequency, the hysteresis loss part can pass through in the lower frequency range. The measured ac loss is extrapolated to an estimate of the loss at zero frequency.
