EN ISO 14253-1:2013 Geometrical product specifications (GPS) - Inspection by measurement of workpieces and measuring equipment - Part 1: Decision rules for proving conformity or nonconformity with specification
This part of ISO 14253 specifies rules for deciding conformity or non-conformity with a given tolerance for a workpiece (or a population of workpieces) or limit deviations (for a measuring instrument), taking into account the measurement uncertainty. These rules are different for the tolerances of individual workpieces and tolerances of a population of workpieces. It also specifies the procedure for cases where no clear decision (conformity or non-conformity with the specification) can be made, ie when the measurement results fall within the uncertainty range (see 3.23) that exists around the specification limits. This part of ISO 14253 applies to specifications in general GPS standards (see ISO/TR 14638) prepared by ISO/TC 213, including:
——Specifications for workpieces/for the population of workpieces (usually referred to as an upper tolerance limit or a lower tolerance limit or both specified), and;
——Specifications for measuring instruments (usually stated as the maximum allowable error limit). This part of ISO 14253 applies only to features with variable size values.
