Scope
This standard specifies the electroacoustic performance requirements for acoustic measurement systems used for aircraft noise assessment, and provides periodic testing methods to verify whether their performance meets the specified tolerance requirements. Generally speaking, this type of acoustic measurement system refers to a combination of instruments connected from a microphone to a suitable output via data recording and processing equipment. Special measurement systems with different structures use different methods to complete necessary functions and operate in an analog or digital manner. The purpose of this standard is to ensure that different measurement systems have the same electroacoustic performance under specified reference environmental conditions and within specified tolerance ranges. This standard does not provide recommendations for the installation of microphones and microphone windshields, nor does it provide relevant requirements for measurement procedures and analysis procedures for aircraft noise assessment. It only provides performance indicators of the 1/3 oct sound pressure level measurement system averaged over a time interval. Certain requirements apply to the entire measurement system, including any device used to record the time-domain waveform of the measured sound pressure signal prior to analysis. Certain requirements apply specifically to microphones that convert received sound pressure into electrical signals. There are also requirements that only apply to instruments that provide an output signal in the form of 1/3 oct sound pressure level. This standard applies to instruments for measuring aircraft noise that may be generated by jet or propeller-driven transport aircraft with a maximum take-off mass exceeding 9000 kg, or by the above-mentioned aircraft engines installed on a suitable outdoor engine test stand.
