Scope
This part of ISO 294 specifies a dual tool (referred to as ISO tool type F) for injection molding panels with dimensions of 80 mm × 90 mm and a preferred thickness of 2 mm for the acquisition of single-point characteristics because it has been shown that 2 mm provide maximum anisotropic properties with only low sensitivity to injection speed. When designing plastic components, this provides the upper and lower limits for the tensile properties. Adjusting the plate thickness to a given component thickness is not a suitable criterion because of the effect of the tool full rate and component geometry on anisotropy. Suitable specimens [ISO 527-2, Type 1BA specimens, or Type 1 specimen bars (80 mm × 10 mm) for tensile testing] are prepared by machining or stamping from the plates (see Appendix A) and used to provide information on the anisotropy of the to obtain thermoplastic plastic parts. The study of anisotropy of thermoplastics is a specific procedure intended to provide guidance in the design of injection molds for end applications and is not intended as a quality assurance tool. When injection molding thermoplastics, the flow of molten polymer can influence the alignment of fillers, e.g. B. glass fibers, or the alignment of polymer chains. This can affect the anisotropic behavior. Knowledge of anisotropic behavior is useful when designing plastic parts. For the purposes of this part of ISO 294, the flow direction is defined as the direction from the gate (inlet) to the first end of the mold cavity and the transverse direction is defined as the direction perpendicular to the flow direction. The Type F tool is not intended to replace the Type D tool, which is used to determine mold shrinkage of thermoplastics.
