Scope
This standard specifies the test method for the determination of the content of wear metals and contaminant elements in lubricating oils in use by rotating dis electrode atomic emis ion spectrometry (RED-AES). This standard can quickly provide information on abnormal wear and contaminants in used oil, and is also suitable for the determination of new oil. This standard uses oil-soluble metals for calibration, but the test results of oil samples containing insoluble particles cannot be used as the content of dis olved metals. The analysis results are related to the size of the particles. When the element particles in the oil are larger, the test results will be affected. On the low side. This standard can detect and quantify wear metal and contaminant elements ranging from dis olved components to particles with a size of 10 μm. This standard uses International System of Units [SI] units. Values given in brackets are for reference only. The recommended preferred unit is mg/kg. This standard covers certain hazardous materials, operations and equipment, but it is not intended to make recommendations on all safety is ues related to this Therefore, users should establis appropriate safety and protective measures and develop corresponding management systems before using this standard.
