This standard specifies a method for the determination of total migration from a surface of a plastic intended to come into contact with food in a water-based food simulant. This method uses a test cell to expose the food contact surface to a selected food simulant at a temperature below (and including) 70°C for a selected time. This standard is most applicable to film and sheet plastics. It is also particularly applicable to materials consisting of multiple layers or surfaces with different migration characteristics. Surfaces intended to come into contact with food must be tested for food simulant migration. .
