This part of ISO 717 a) specifies figures for airborne sound insulation in buildings and components such as walls, ceilings, doors and windows; b) takes into account the different sound level spectra of different noise sources, such as those for noise within a building and that for traffic noise outside a building; c) contains rules for determining these singular values from the results of measurements in third-octave or octave bands according to ISO 10140-2, ISO 140-4 and ISO 140-5. The single figures in this part of ISO 717 are intended for the assessment of airborne sound insulation and for simplifying the formulation of acoustic requirements in building regulations. For the purpose of specifying the uncertainty, the determination of an additional single number in 0.1 dB steps is included (excluding the spectrum adjustment values). The required numerical values of these singular data are determined for various needs. The basis for the single number information are results from measurements in third-octave bands or in octave bands. With regard to measurements in test benches according to ISO 10140, single-number data should only be calculated on the basis of third-octave bands. The evaluation of the results of measurements over an extended frequency range is discussed in Appendix B.
