This International Standard specifies a method for the photometric determination of the mass fraction of total cyanide and readily releasable cyanide in soil using automated continuous distillation flow analysis. This International Standard is applicable to all soil types that have a mass fraction of cyanide exceeding 1 mg/kg, based on dry matter, expressed as cyanide ion. NOTE Sulfide concentrations in the sample greater than 40 mg/kg dry matter cause interference. This effect is manifested by split peaks and a slow decrease in the detector signal and can only be prevented by diluting the sample extract.
