This part of ISO 3452 specifies a procedure for penetrant testing to detect defects such as: B. cracks, overlaps, folds, pores and bonding defects that are open to the surface of the material to be tested. It is primarily used for metallic materials, but can also be used for other materials, provided that these materials are inert to the test media and not excessively porous (castings and forgings, welds, ceramics, etc.). It also contains the requirements for process and control testing, but is not intended for the application of acceptance criteria and does not contain information regarding the suitability of the individual testing systems for specific applications or requirements for the testing equipment. NOTE 1 The procedures for determining and presenting the essential properties of the penetrant testing equipment used are specified in ISO 3452-2 and ISO 3452-3. NOTE 2 The term "defect" is used in this part of ISO 3452 in the sense that it does not include an assessment of acceptability or inadmissibility.
