- This standard specifies a method for determining the flash point of petroleum products using a Pensky-Martin closed cup manual tester or a Pensky-Martin closed cup automatic tester. This standard is applicable to the determination of the flash point of petroleum products with a flash point temperature between 40°C and 360°C. Step A applies to distillate fuels (diesel, kerosene, thermal oil, turbine fuel), new lubricating oils and other similar oils not included in the scope of Step B. Step B is suitable for residual fuel oil, blended residual oil, used lubricating oil, petroleum solid-liquid mixture, petroleum liquids that can form a surface liquid film under test conditions, or high temperatures that cannot be heated evenly under the stirring and heating conditions of step A. Viscosity of petroleum liquids. This standard is also applicable to detecting the presence of relatively volatile or flammable substances in samples.
