This standard specifies the method for determining the content of naphthalene, acenaphthylene and their alkyl derivatives (naphthalene series hydrocarbons, the same below) in aviation turbine fuel by using ultraviolet spectrophotometry. This standard is applicable to the determination of the naphthalene series hydrocarbon content in aviation turbine fuel with a final boiling point not higher than 315°C and a volume fraction not higher than 5%. When determining the precision of this method between laboratories, the naphthalene content of the sample used in step A The concentration (volume fraction) of naphthalene series hydrocarbons ranges from 0.03% to 4.25%; the concentration (volume fraction) of the sample used in step B ranges from 0.08% to 5.6%. This standard is capable of determining the maximum amount of naphthalene hydrocarbons that may be present in a sample.
