This Standard method covers the qualitative determination of the acidity of hydrocarbon liquids and their distillation residues. To determine the basicity is necessary to replace the methyl orange indicator for phenolphthalein indicator by using the procedures of 8.2 or 8.3. As an indication of the basicity is observed a pink or red in aqueous solution.
