This standard deals with definitions of terms and calculation of area and volume for rooms, utility units, floors or plans and buildings. The standard applies to area and volume calculation of all types of buildings, both during construction and throughout the period of use, as well as at planning and design, building case processing, assessment and management, in connection with tax or statis ical calculations and the like. The area and volume concepts defined in this standard are designed for practical use, as a starting point for measuring various aspects related to a building performance, or as an aid in planning. They must make it possible to make an assessment based on functional, technical and economic aspects. The standard meets the need for a conceptual overview when planning and managing projects.
