Scope
This standard specifies the evaluation method of phased array ultrasonic detector and system performance characteristics. The purpose of evaluating these performances is to compare phased array ultrasonic detectors and systems, or to detect long-term changes in the performance of specific phased array ultrasonic detectors or systems through periodic performance evaluations. and potential failures of the system, and once these changes exceed certain limits, corrective maintenance is required. This standard focuses on the items that need to be measured according to the size of the relative role played in ultrasonic testing. The performance of other electronic characteristics is similar to that of non-phased array devices, which can be measured in accordance with the descriptions in ASTM E1324 "Guidelines for the Measurement of Electronic Characteristics of Ultrasonic Testing Instruments" in ASTM E1065 "Guidelines for the Evaluation of Ultrasonic Probe Characteristics". This International Standard can be used to evaluate ultrasonic testing systems using pulse trains and A-scan displays (radio frequency or video). This standard can be used to evaluate a complete detection system, including probes, phased array ultrasonic detectors, couplings, scanning devices, connected alarms and auxiliary equipment, mainly to evaluate the use of the system to repeat without change or replacement. Test performance. This standard is not intended to replace calibration or standardization procedures for phased array ultrasonic testing instruments or systems for inspection of a particular material. This standard does not set requirements for testing system performance. If such acceptance criteria are required, they shall be specified by the user. Where acceptance criteria are mentioned, they are for example purposes only and are always subject to strict limitations as required by customer and end user control documents. It is up to the user to determine the specific parameters to be evaluated, the conditions and frequency of testing, and the data required to be reported. In addition to the phased array ultrasonic detector or system to be evaluated, the required equipment includes test blocks and position encoders. This standard also includes considerations related to the applicability of procedures and the interpretation of results. Alternative procedures, such as the examples described in this document, may be used only with the consent of the client. It is not the intent of this standard to address all safety issues related to use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practice and determine applicability limitations prior to use.
