Scope
This standard specifies the method for evaluating the degree of sensitization (DOS) of stainless steel and nickel-based alloys using the double-loop electrochemical potentiodynamic reactivation (DL-EPR) test. This standard is applicable to the quantitative measurement of alloy element-poor areas formed by grain boundaries or matrix due to harmful thermal effects. Because the distribution of the sensitized zone along the fusion line may be non-uniform, special care should be taken when testing the heat-affected zone of welds. The test results can be used as potential susceptibility indicators for judging intergranular corrosion, pitting corrosion and intergranular stress corrosion cracking of stainless steel and nickel-based alloys, but specific supplementary tests are required for the prediction of corrosion types.
