This standard describes the failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and failure mode, effects and criticality analysis (Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis, FMECA) procedures, and provides guidance for the application of the procedures to achieve various goals from the following aspects: — provide the procedural steps necessary to perform the analysis; — determine appropriate terms, assumptions, hazard measures and failure modes; — determine the basic principles; — provide examples in the form of tables where necessary. In view of the fact that FMECA is an extension of FMEA, all qualitative analyzes used in FMEA are applicable to FMECA.
