This standard specifies a passive sampler/solvent extraction/high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method for the determination of formaldehyde in indoor air. Note () In English, the words "diffusive sampler" and "passive sampler" are sometimes used, but here they are unified as "passive sampler." This test method is applicable for measuring concentration ranges of 0.001-1.0 mg/m for 24-72 hours, 0.003-1.0 mg/m for 24 hours, and 0.001-0.33 mg/m for 72 hours. It is. This method is suitable for measurements with a lower limit of air velocity of 0.02 m/s and an upper limit of relative humidity of up to 80%. Note: As long as the sampler's measurement sensitivity and accuracy are guaranteed, it may be applied for a short period of time (sampling shorter than 24 hours, hereinafter referred to as "short-time sampling"). Possible interferences due to the presence of other carbonyl compounds are eliminated in this method at the chromatographic stage. This sampling method yields time-weighted average values. This standard assumes that the reagent (DNPH-formaldehyde derivative) and sampler used are self-made, but commercially available products may be used if their quality and performance have been confirmed.
