Scope: This standard specifies the general conditions for the analysis of polymers using thermogravimetric analysis techniques. This standard applies to the analysis of solid or liquid samples. Solid materials can be in the form of spheres, granules or powder. Processed molded products reduced to appropriate sample sizes can also be analyzed using the methods of this standard. Thermogravimetric analysis can be used to determine the decomposition temperature and decomposition rate of polymers, as well as the amount of volatiles, additives and/or fillers contained in the polymer. Thermogravimetric measurements can be performed in dynamic mode (mass changes with temperature or time under programmed conditions) or in isothermal mode (mass changes with time at constant temperature).
