Scope

This part specifies the general requirements, measurement methods, detection quantity and location, measurement uncertainty and reporting for the measurement of coating thickness on magnetic substrates and non-magnetic substrate metals using magnetic thickness gauges and eddy current measuring instruments respectively. This section is applicable to the measurement and acceptance of coating thickness of organic coatings, thermal sprays, glazes, enamels, etc. for aerospace products. The measurement and acceptance of coating thickness of other products can also be implemented by reference. This section does not apply to the measurement and acceptance of coating thicknesses such as coatings on non-metal substrates and coatings on metal substrates with a small radius of curvature.
