This standard specifies the requirements and quality control for near-surface defects in civil aircraft composite components using infrared thermal imaging (hereinafter referred to as thermal imaging detection). This standard is applicable to the use of infrared thermal imaging methods to detect delamination, debonding, voids, foreign matter and liquid intrusion in composite components (including laminated panels, honeycomb structures and sandwich structures) and the joints between panels and support structures in civil aircraft. Detection of defects. This standard does not apply to the detection of damage to the sandwich layer and defects in the joint between the sandwich layer and the other side of the laminate (away from the testing equipment).
