Scope
This standard applies to electrical equipment for protection against indirect lightning and direct lightning effects or other transient overvoltage surges. These electrical appliances are assembled and connected to circuits and equipment whose rated AC voltage does not exceed 1000V (rms), 50/60Hz or DC voltage does not exceed 1500V. This standard specifies the characteristics, standard test methods and ratings of these electrical appliances, which contain at least one non-linear element used to limit voltage and discharge surge current.
