- Scope
- This standard specifies the safety requirements and related test methods for the electrical parts of laser equipment and facilities, and provides guidelines for basic electrical safety precautions. This standard applies to the safety requirements and related test methods for laser equipment and facilities specified in this article, with the purpose of providing reliable protection for equipment users from the following aspects: a) direct and indirect contact; b) excessive temperature action (fire hazard); c) burst and implosion; d) action of toxic or corrosive substances. This standard does not apply to direct and indirect contact and protection of electrical parts in laser equipment and facilities that work at safety extra-low voltage and have no risk of electric shock; nor does it apply to entire equipment containing laser components (such as medical equipment, office machines and equipment used in hazardous environments). These devices should comply with other electrical safety standards. However, if the laser is still operable when removed from the equipment, the removed laser shall comply with the requirements of this standard. This standard also does not apply to laser equipment and facilities under development or design. This standard does not apply to the use of laser radiation generated by laser equipment; nor does it address radiation protection measures. However, when the laser radiation protection device is connected to electrical equipment, it should be based on the tests specified in this standard to estimate its electrical safety.
