This standard specifies the terms and definitions, principles, reagents and materials, instruments and equipment, operating procedures, calculation and presentation of results, and precision for the determination of fatty acid values of grains and oilseeds. This standard applies to the determination of the fatty acid value of grains such as wheat flour by the benzene extraction method; the determination of the fatty acid value of soybean, peanut, rapeseed, walnut, sesame, sunflower seed and corn germ by the petroleum ether extraction method. This standard does not apply to the determination of fatty acid values of other oils.
