This leaflet sets out the minimal design measures for protecting vehicles by earthing in order to:
-protect persons and animals from excessive contact voltages should they touch live defective metal parts ,and
-ensure that the power circuit in the sub-station is reliably tripped in the event of parts of the contact wire coming in contact with the vehicle.
The leaflet applies to motive power units, coaches and wagons.
