Scope

This standard specifies the terms and definitions, safety technical requirements and test methods, instruction manuals and signs of walk-behind lawn mowers powered by gasoline (diesel) engines. Some of the major hazards covered by this standard that should be eliminated or reduced are listed in Appendix A. This standard also applies to the corresponding parts of walk-behind lawn mowers powered by other internal combustion engines, and also to tow-ride lawn mowers other than passenger accessories. This standard does not apply to ride-on lawn mowers, nor does it apply to lawn mowers whose cutting parts are non-metal flexible wires or free-centering non-metallic cutters, and the cutting energy (kinetic energy) of each cutting part is not greater than 10J.
