Scope

This part of ISO 10140 specifies a method for measuring the airborne sound insulation of building products such as walls, ceilings, doors, windows, closures, facade elements, facades, glazing, small technical components such as air outlets, ventilation panels, outside air inlets, cable ducts, sealing systems at transitions and combinations, For example, walls or ceilings with facing panels, suspended ceilings or floating screed. The test results can be used to compare the sound insulation properties of components, to classify components according to their sound insulation, to support the design of building products that must have certain acoustic properties and to estimate the installed performance in the complete building. The measurements are carried out in test stands in which sound transmission via flank paths is suppressed. The results of measurements carried out in accordance with this part of ISO 10140 are not directly applicable to the practical situation without taking into account other factors such as flank transmission, boundary conditions and total loss factor that may influence sound insulation.
