Scope
This standard specifies the minimum requirements for performance and testing of pressure/vacuum valves, emphasizing material selection, internal processing and surface requirements for pressure/vacuum valves installed in cargo oil tanks of tankers (see Appendix A). This standard applies to pressure/vacuum valves that protect when there is a gas/vapor pressure or vacuum that exceeds the system/tank design parameters in the ship's system (including cargo oil tanks). This standard does not deal with devices to prevent the entry of flames. In the "1997 International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS)" of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Article 59 1 of Chapter II-2 and IMO Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) Circular Letter No. 677 (MSC/Circ.677 ) "Revised Standards for the Design, Testing and Installation of Devices to Prevent the Entry of Flame into Cargo Tanks of Tankers". This standard specifies the design and daily operating guidelines, operating tests and maintenance requirements for pressure/vacuum valves.
