Scope
This standard is applicable to Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy for monitoring additive consumption, accumulation of pollutants, and oil degradation in mechanical lubricating oils, hydraulic oils, and other liquids used in the routine operation of mechanical equipment. The purpose of this monitoring behavior is to diagnose the operating condition of the machine based on the quality of the lubricant in use. This standard is based on trend analysis and dis ribution response analysis of mid-infrared spectroscopy measurements. The scope and dis ribution profiles presented in this standard are for reference only and do not serve as guidelines for establis ing lubricants or mechanical equipment. A fast and simple spectral measurement method has been establis ed for in-use lubricating oil condition monitoring; mid-infrared spectral characteris ics are used to assis in detecting the health status of mechanical equipment. The infrared spectral data generated by this method are intended to be combined with data from other test methods; they are not suitable for predicting the physical properties of lubricants. The purpose of this standard is to monitor lubricating oil in use and assis in determining the status of conventional mechanical equipment, rather than to analyze the composition, lubrication performance or additive formula of lubricating oil. This standard does not make recommendations on all safety is ues involved. Therefore, before using this standard, the user must establis appropriate safety and protective measures and determine the applicability of relevant regulatory limitations.
