Scope: This standard specifies the naming rules for different types of measuring instruments and measuring instrument features to facilitate technical communication between different languages. This standard applies to measurement techniques. The scope of this standard is to: Name measuring instruments and characteristics of measuring instruments by the measurand or measurement task rather than the unit. Adapt the nomenclature of gauges and gauge characteristics to the current state of science. The nomenclature of measuring instruments and measuring instrument characteristics is consistent with the relevant terms in ISO/IEC Guide 99 (VIM).
