1.1 This standard specifies the method for determination of the acid value of unused and used electrical mineral insulating oils. 1.2 This standard can be used to indicate the relative changes that occur when mineral insulating oils are used under oxidizing conditions, regardless of whether their color or other properties change. 1.3 Acid value can be used for quality control of unused electrical mineral insulating oils. 1.4 There are various oxidation products in used electrical mineral insulating oil that will affect the acid value, and the corrosiveness of these oxidation products varies. This standard cannot be used to predict the corrosiveness of electrical mineral insulating oil in use.
