Scope
This standard specifies the standard test procedure for the power frequency arc test of insulator strings, and also proposes the standard test procedure for the power frequency arc test of short strings. This standard applies to insulator strings and insulator strings composed of ceramic and glass composite insulator string elements for AC overhead lines and traction lines with a nominal voltage higher than 1000V and a frequency of 15Hz to 100Hz. This standard is also applicable to insulator strings and insulator string groups for substations with similar structures. This standard does not apply to insulator strings installed on non-metallic poles or towers. This standard cannot be directly applied to line post insulators and their insulator groups, nor can it be used for diagonally braced line post insulators, because the installation arrangements described in this standard cannot reproduce their installation conditions. However, the basic principles of this standard can be applied to the testing of these insulators and their installation arrangements.
