Scope
This part of ISO 11546 describes laboratory procedures for determining the sound insulation (insertion loss) of small soundproof enclosures for machines. It only applies to a complete soundproofing capsule and not to the individual walls from which it is made. NOTE 1 The sound insulation of the capsule parts, such as: B. the wall elements, doors, windows, silencers, etc., should be measured according to other standards relevant to them. NOTE 2 Similar standards concern the measurement of the noise reduction of sound insulation capsules in use (ISO 11546-2) and of cabins (ISO 11957). The measurement methods described in this part of ISO 11546 are based on the International Standards of the ISO 3740, ISO 9614 and ISO 11200 series (see Table 1). Depending on the method chosen, the sound insulation of the sound insulation capsule (insertion insulation dimension) is determined as a reduction in sound power or sound pressure level. Methods are described in which the capsule encloses the actual sound source (machine). Where these methods are not applicable, a reciprocity method (see terms 3.11 and 7.2) or a substitute sound source may alternatively be used. This part of ISO 11546 is fully applicable to free-standing soundproofing capsules with a volume of less than 2 m3. If the actual sound source is used, soundproof capsules with volumes exceeding 2 m3 can be measured if the requirements of the referenced standard regarding the maximum permissible volume are met. The method using the actual sound source can be applied to soundproof capsules of any design, e.g. B. integrated soundproof capsules can be used. If the reciprocity method or the method with a substitute sound source is used, the maximum permissible volume of the soundproof capsule is limited to 2 m3. These procedures are not applicable to skin-tight soundproof capsules. The term "laboratory conditions" in the title of this part of ISO 11546 indicates that the test conditions and test environment (indoor and outdoor) fully comply with the requirements of the relevant International Standards in Table 1.
