This standard specifies two methods for the determination of moisture and other volatile substances in raw rubber: hot roll method and oven method. This standard is applicable to the determination of the volatile content of the "R" group rubber listed in GB/T 5576-1997. "R" group rubber refers to rubbers containing unsaturated carbon chains, such as natural rubber and synthetic rubber at least partially polymerized from dienes. This standard may also be applicable to the determination of other types of rubber. In this case, it should be verified that the change in mass is due only to the loss of the original volatile species and not to degradation of the rubber. The hot roll method is not suitable for natural rubber and synthetic isoprene rubber or rubber that is difficult to handle on hot rolls, nor is it suitable for sheet or powder rubber. These two methods do not necessarily lead to the same results. Therefore, in case of dispute, the oven method A should be used.
