This standard specifies the gravimetric method for the determination of the soluble content of acetone extracted from finely ground phenolic moldings near the boiling point. This standard applies to the determination of acetone solubles in phenolic molded products. The acetone solubles test is a method of determining the relative degree of cure of phenolic molded articles made from a given material. The extraction process should be carried out within the specified time under the specified conditions. Although most of the soluble matter was determined, the extraction was not necessarily complete. The results are only comparative, since in addition to the possible presence of uncured resin extracts, other substances such as lubricants, colorants and plasticizers are usually present.
