This standard specifies the characteristics of personal eye-protectors for industrial and non-industrial use. It covers eye-protectors embodying afocal or prescription lenses or combinations of these. The hazards covered are impact, molten metals, hot solids, dusts, gases, liquids and any combination of these.
2 Requirements for eye-protectors used as protection against radiation outside the visible area of the spectrum and against laser beams are not given in this standard. For protection against harmful radiation, see SABS 1400, and for more information on oculars, see SABS EN 169.
