Scope
This specification covers the chemical, physical, and performance requirements for three exposure classes of resin adhesives for wood, supplied in liquid or powder form, and based on the chemical reaction with formaldehyde of melamine, urea, melamine-urea compounds, polyurethane compounds, or phenolic compounds. This specification does not cover adhesives supplied in film form. NOTE a) The standards referred to in the specification are listed in appendix A. b) Requirements that must be specified by the purchaser and one that may be agreed upon between the manufacturer and the purchaser are noted in appendix B. c) Where modifying agents, other than those authorized by the manufacturer in his written dated instructions, are added to an adhesive (or component), such an adhesive must be considered not to comply with this specification and should be submitted for qualifying tests. d) In the case of hot-curing phenolic or aminoplastic resin adhesives it may be necessary to specify additional requirements to those laid down in this specification. e) This specification should be read in conjunction with SANS 10183.
