Scope
This standard specifies test methods for determining the flow and water content performance characteristics of liquid-pipe refrigerant dryers. This standard applies to dryers using desiccant. Since the performance of the desiccant varies with its activity, the water content test method specified in this standard is not only suitable for testing "new dryers", but also suitable for the desiccant containing the reactivated desiccant according to the manufacturer's requirements. This standard applies to systems using halogenated hydrocarbon refrigerants with a boiling point lower than 20°C at standard atmospheric pressure. This standard does not apply to the following performance indicators of the dryer: a) Physical characteristics of the desiccant; b) Chemical characteristics of the dryer; c) Water absorption mechanism of the dryer; d) Filtration capacity of the dryer; f) performance of dryers not used in liquid lines; g) drying speed; h) effect on moisture content of dryers by system size, potential freezing, and chemical activity issues; i) effect of oil on dryer performance. This standard does not specify standard operating conditions such as temperature, equilibrium point dryness, and pressure drop. These values can refer to the ARI710 standard (see Appendix A).
