Scope: 1.1 This standard applies to the determination of the flammability of plastics used in electrical devices and equipment parts, and is used to preliminarily predict whether the flammability of plastics is suitable for a specific application. 1.2 The test methods introduced in this standard include specimens of standard size, and are only used to measure and describe the combustion performance of materials used in instruments and equipment, under controlled laboratory conditions, to heat sources and flames, and the materials to heat sources and flames. The actual response depends on the size and shape of the sample and the end use of the product in which the material is used. This standard cannot be used to evaluate other important characteristics in the end application including (but not limited to) flammability, burning velocity, flame spread, energy release, severity of combustion, combustion products, etc. 1.3 This standard can be used to evaluate other non-metallic materials. 1.4 This standard cannot be used to evaluate construction and decoration materials.
