Scope: This standard specifies the classification and labeling, requirements, test methods, inspection rules and signs, packaging, transportation and storage of calcium-based lubricating greases made from animal and vegetable fat calcium soaps thickened with mineral lubricating oils. The products covered by this standard are applicable to the lubrication and protection of mechanical equipment such as metallurgy and textiles and agricultural machinery such as tractors. The operating temperature range is -10°C to 60°C.

GB/T 491-2008 Calcium lubricating grease has been changed from GB 491-1987 Calcium base grease.
