This International Standard specifies a method for pre-treating samples by freeze-drying for subsequent analysis. This International Standard is applicable to soil samples for the subsequent determination of elements or organic compounds identified as non-volatile under freeze-drying conditions. In principle, this International Standard can also be used for sludge and sediment samples. Freeze drying can be used as a first step in determining dry matter (or water) content, for example in the case of samples with a high water content.
