This section applies to surge protectors (hereinafter referred to as SPDs—Surge protective devices) that protect telecommunications and signal networks that are directly or indirectly affected by lightning or other transient overvoltages. The purpose of these SPDs is to protect modern electronic equipment connected to telecommunication and signaling networks with system nominal voltages up to 1000V AC (RMS) and 1500V DC.
