Scope
This standard specifies the determination method for the upper limit and lower limit concentration of the flammable mixture formed by the vapor of the chemical substance and air under the test temperature and normal pressure. Inert gases can be used as diluents in the test, but substances that are more oxidizing than air cannot be used. This standard applies to vapor and gaseous substances. Note 1: The lower flammability limit (LFL) and the upper flammability limit (UFL) are sometimes referred to as the lower explosion limit (LEL) and the upper explosion limit (UEL), respectively. However, LEL and UEL can sometimes also express concentration, but not the limit defined in this standard, so when referring to LEL and UEL, be sure to clarify their exact definition.
