This international standard specifies methods for the detection of methylene chloride-soluble substances in leather. This method is suitable for all types of leather. Not all fatty acids and similar substances can be extracted from leather with organic solvents; they may be partially soluble and partially solidified in the leather. on the other hand. This solvent can dissolve non-fat substances. Examples include sulfur and impregnating agents. Both substances can cause confusion when testing the acid and saponification values of fats. This international standard includes two fatty substance extraction technologies: 1) using Soxhlet. equipment extraction; and 2) extraction using a pressurized extraction system. In the process of detecting the content of free fatty acids in leather, extraction is often carried out. This method includes suitable procedures for detecting free fatty acids. The equipment and techniques described in this method are also applicable to the extraction of solvents other than methylene chloride (for high-pressure extractions, the temperature conditions may need to be changed).
