Scope: This standard specifies the method for the non-destructive measurement of the thickness of non-conductive coatings on non-magnetic base metals using eddy current thickness gauges. This method is suitable for measuring the thickness of most anodized coatings; however, it is not suitable for all conversion coatings, some conversion coatings are too thin to be measured by this method (see Chapter 7). This method can theoretically measure the thickness of the coating layer on the magnetic base metal, but it is not recommended. In this case, the magnetic method specified in GB/T 4956 should be used for measurement.
