Scope

This standard specifies a method for testing the resistance of enamel coatings on aluminum and aluminum alloys to spalling when exposed to moisture or weathering by accelerated tests. Because peeling is caused by poor adhesion between the enamel layer and the base metal, the peeling test is also an adhesion test. The more severe the spalling in this test, the more likely the article will spall in service.
