Scope
This standard specifies standard reference conditions and calibration and test methods for power, fuel consumption and oil consumption of commercial internal combustion engines using liquid or gaseous fuels. Applicable to: a) reciprocating internal combustion engines (spark-ignition or compression-ignition engines), but excluding free-piston engines; b) rotary-piston engines. These engines can be naturally aspirated or supercharged using a supercharger or turbocharger. This standard applies to engines for the following purposes: a) Land, track traction and marine engines defined in GB/T 6072.1; b) Vehicle engines defined in ISO 1585 and ISO 2534; c) Motorcycles defined in ISO 4106 d) Engines for agricultural tractors and machinery as defined in ISO 2288; e) Engines for earth-moving machinery as defined in ISO 9294; f) Engines for small ships such as yachts with a hull length not greater than 24m as defined in ISO 8665. This standard is also applicable to road construction machinery, industrial trucks and engines for other purposes for which there is currently no suitable standard. The relevant "satellite" standard gives individual requirements for an engine for a specific application. Only when this "Core" standard is used together with the relevant "Satellite" standard can the relevant requirements for an engine for a given application be fully specified.
